World Championships Silver!

Thats a wrap for another season. I am hugely proud to have pulled out my best result to date with a silver medal at the World Championships!

This is the race I have been targeting all season, World Champs is once every 2 years and its the biggest event for us behind the Olympics. World champs were held in Sierra Nevada, Spain. Right down the south of Spain where you could see Africa from the top of the mountain and the snow was stained orange from sand blown across from the Sahara dessert.

I was feeling confident leading into the final day after having fast training runs and feeling ready for anything. The rounds were big battles, I had been very fast in the start section but with tight racing and at one stage in the 2nd round I found myself in 4th, but made a double pass to progress into the semi. The semi I was stoked to lead the entire race and then in the final after winning the start, dropping to 2nd, then tucking in behind Victor from Sweden to hold on for 2nd!

Crossing the finish line the feeling was immense, huge relief, happiness and satisfaction!! though I have also never been more exhausted both mentally and physically.

 
In the races leading up to World Championships I felt like I was building perfectly to world champs. I had some solid results where I placed 12th in the World Cup finals in Canada, 12th in the World Cup stop in Italy, and a European Cup Win in Switzerland. Along with my 5th place in the Switzerland World Cup before Christmas. My qualifying runs also were developing well – posting new best placings in the time trials.

This seasons results have me well placed for the 2018 Winter Olympics in Korea, my qualification is now looking extremely positive, yahoooo! Still plenty to work on and hard work required.

The irony is I was far from 100% physically in both of my best results this season, suffering from a stomach bug at World Champs and oblique injury back in December.

This season has definitely been my best season ever and one that I am extremely proud of. I have learnt and found what it takes to win rounds against the best in the world with a massive part being the mental game, smarter with planning and detailed breakdowns of each step.

Now it is time for some much needed recovery time staying in one time zone, and one wardrobe, I will take it easy for a few weeks before building back into off-snow training and then on- snow in the NZ season.

I want to say a massive thank you to my brother Nick, coaching me from the other side of the world is not easy, endless 4am phone calls and analysis through uploading videos on crappy internet. My ski tech- Martin who ensured my skis were rockets all season long. The Australian team for all their support. All my sponsors and supporters who are such a key part of my team. Shane my HPSNZ physical trainer. My family and Sophie for their enduring support, and lastly everyone who follows and supports me whether its a simple like on my Facebook/ instagram posts its nice to know people are part of my journey!
